Chard and District Museum

The museum is housed in a 16thC house and former inn. Displays include the history of Chard, cider-making, farm implements and machinery, carts, laundry and kitchen. Also exhibitions of costume, Victorian childhood, a 19thC artificial limbmaker of the town, and display about John Stringfellow, the inventor of the first power-driven aeroplane. Blacksmith's forge, carpenter's and plumber's workshop and c1940s garage. Gerald Larcombe Gallery with displays relating to the people of Chard, in particular Margaret Bondfield, the first woman Cabinet Minister.
